A fully custom, bilingual WordPress build for a Cardiff tax adviser — hand-coded for speed, security, and a client who runs it all herself.
About the project
TTAX's previous site was a template Wix build that undersold a Chartered Tax Adviser's expertise and left her with almost no control over her own content. This one started from a blank slate: no theme, no page builder, no drag-and-drop editor — a hand-coded WordPress theme built line by line and styled from a single token-driven stylesheet, so the whole site restyles from one file. It runs on a single active plugin. Everything else — the bilingual system, the News engine, the settings dashboard, the guided onboarding tour — is hand-coded straight into the theme, not bolted on top of it. Because a good share of her clients are Mandarin-speaking, that bilingual system is genuine: every field carries an optional Mandarin companion with automatic fallback to English, proper /zh/ URLs, hreflang tags, and its own sitemap. Analytics was wired in from launch, and both sitemaps were submitted and verified in Search Console — including a fix for a WordPress core bug that was quietly serving sitemaps with a 404 status header, invisible in a browser but enough to make Search Console reject them outright. Security, privacy and speed were treated the same way: hardened login protection, a locked-down security policy, a proper cookie-consent banner, and an OpenStreetMap office map that loads instantly with no tracking cookies. The result is 100/100 on Google Lighthouse across Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices and SEO — and three client-requested refinements shipped same-day in the first week live.
